The situation

A large-scale greenfield investment in the food sector is one of the most regulatory-intensive types of industrial projects in Poland. It requires simultaneous management of multiple parallel proceedings – from environmental impact assessment through integrated permits to soil contamination issues and water and wastewater infrastructure and an error or delay in any one of them can block the entire construction schedule. The client was planning to build one of the largest food production plants in Poland.

Our role

We designed and implemented a comprehensive investment process roadmap, covering regulatory planning, sequencing of proceedings and management of their interdependencies. We advised in proceedings concerning soil contamination, environmental decisions and integrated permits. We cooperated with the municipality on the necessary investments in water and wastewater infrastructure. Our environmental advisory was built into the project from the first planning stage, not added to a completed design as a correction.

The result

This is an example of a matter in which environmental advisory has a real impact on the success of the entire investment, not as a formal box to tick, but as one of the key factors determining whether the project is delivered on schedule and within the planned budget.
